Definitions:
Magnetic poles: The space between magnetic poles or between rotating and stationary assemblies in a motor or generator.
Regulator: The distance between the contact armature and the iron core, which, when magnetized, draws the armature down.
Reluctor and pickup coil: The distance between the reluctor tooth and the pickup coil in an ignition system.
