Air Quality Management District

(AQMD) An administrative district, primarily in California, organized to control air pollution. AQMDs are parallel to areas designated for classification against the National Ambient Air Quality Standards (NAAQS). They encompass multiple jurisdictions and often align with the definitions of Consolidated Metropolitan Statistical Areas and Metropolitan Statistical Areas.
