A banjo fitting is a specialized type of hydraulic fitting designed to facilitate fluid transfer in hydraulic systems.
Banjo Fitting Design and Function:
- Shape: A banjo fitting is named for its resemblance to the musical instrument “banjo.” It consists of a hollow bolt (also known as banjo bolt) passing through a round, doughnut-shaped central portion (the banjo body or banjo eye). This central part has holes or channels for fluid to pass through.
- Installation: The hollow bolt of the banjo fitting is threaded into a hydraulic component, such as a cylinder, pump, or valve. Hydraulic lines are connected to the banjo fitting via hydraulic hoses or tubes.
- Fluid Transfer: The hydraulic fluid flows through the hollow bolt and into or out of the central cavity of the banjo fitting. This design allows fluid to transfer between the hydraulic component and the hydraulic lines without obstruction from the fitting itself.
- Applications: Banjo fittings are commonly used in applications where space is limited or where fluid flow needs to be directed at specific angles. They are prevalent in automotive braking systems, fuel systems, and other hydraulic systems where precise fluid transfer is critical.
