A bellmouth is a type of brake drum distortion characterized by the open edge of the drum having a larger diameter than the closed edge. This distortion can cause uneven braking, increased wear on brake components, and reduced braking efficiency. The name “bellmouth” comes from the shape, which resembles the flared end of a bell. This issue is typically caused by excessive heat, improper installation, or material defects in the brake drum.
