Bellows Seal
- In valve technology, a bellows seal is a method of sealing the valve stem. The ends of a flexible sealing material (often a bellows-shaped component) are securely fastened to both the valve bonnet and the valve stem. This design allows the seal to expand and contract with the movement of the valve stem, maintaining a tight seal to prevent leakage around the stem.
- Master Cylinder Reservoir Seal:
- In automotive or hydraulic systems, particularly in master cylinders, a bellows seal can refer to an expanding diaphragm used as a seal between the reservoir and its cover. This diaphragm prevents air from entering the reservoir, which could otherwise lead to air bubbles in the fluid and compromise braking or hydraulic system performance. At the same time, it allows the fluid level to change as needed without allowing air to mix with the fluid.
These applications highlight the versatility of bellows seals in maintaining effective seals while accommodating movement and changes in volume within mechanical and hydraulic systems.
