Berm:
- Embankment or Cutting:
- Description: A horizontal ledge or shelf constructed along the side of an embankment or cutting. Its primary purposes include intercepting earth or debris rolling down slopes and adding structural strength to the construction.
- Synonym: Also referred to as a “bench.”
- Water Management:
- Description: A low earth fill placed strategically in the path of flowing water to redirect its direction. It can also serve as a counterweight alongside road fills, helping to mitigate the risk of foundation failure by acting as a buttress.
