Caboose
A specialized railcar traditionally positioned at the end of a freight train, designed to serve as both an operational workspace and living quarters for the conductor and other crew members. The caboose was equipped with essential features, including a desk for paperwork, a brake platform for monitoring and manually applying brakes when necessary, and accommodations such as bunks, a stove for heating, and storage for supplies. It also featured a cupola or bay windows, allowing crew members to visually inspect the train for mechanical issues or shifting loads. With advancements in technology, such as end-of-train devices (EOTs) and centralized train control systems, the use of cabooses has largely been phased out in modern rail operations.
