Cabover Truck (Cab-Over-Engine, COE)
A truck or tractor configuration where the driver’s cab is positioned directly above the engine and front axle, optimizing the vehicle’s length for maneuverability and cargo capacity. This design places the windshield near the front bumper, providing a distinctive flat-faced profile and maximizing the forward visibility for the driver. The compact layout typically results in a shorter wheelbase, making cabover trucks well-suited for urban environments and tight spaces. The driver’s seat is situated above the steering axle, offering a high vantage point but requiring a vertical or foldable entry system due to the elevated cab. Commonly referred to as “flat-faced” or “butt-nosed” trucks, cabover designs are more prevalent in regions with strict length regulations, such as Europe and Asia, and are less common in the United States, where conventional long-hood trucks dominate.
