Different types of hoods or bonnets found on vehicles.
- Alligator Hood (Front-opening hood):
- Opens from the front (towards the windshield).
- Hinge is near the firewall (the rear of the engine compartment).
- Most common in modern cars.
- Side-opening Hood:
- Older cars often had hoods that opened from the side.
- This design is less common in modern vehicles but was prevalent in many classic cars.
- Front-hinged Hood (on sports cars and large trucks):
- Some sports cars and larger trucks have hoods that open with the hinge towards the front of the vehicle (opposite the windshield).
- This design can sometimes provide easier access to the engine bay, especially in large trucks or high-performance vehicles.
Each of these designs has its own advantages and historical context, with modern vehicles typically using the alligator hood design for practicality and ease of access.
