The Mengshi 917, also known as M-Hero 917, is a new electric off-road SUV developed by Dongfeng’s M-Hero Technology. The vehicle is based on the M-Terrain concept, initially unveiled in 2022, and represents Dongfeng’s push into the high-performance electric vehicle market.

Specifications and Features:

  • Power and Range: The Mengshi 917 offers two versions: a pure electric version and an extended-range electric vehicle (EREV) version. The pure electric variant features four electric motors, one on each wheel, producing a combined 1,088 hp and a range of about 505 km. The EREV version combines an electric motor with a small petrol engine, providing a combined range of 800 km.
  • Dimensions and Design: The SUV measures 4987 mm in length, 2080 mm in width, and 1935 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2950 mm. It has approach and departure angles of 31 degrees, making it highly capable off-road.
  • Battery Technology: The vehicle uses CATL’s 140 kWh NMC Qilin battery for the pure electric version and a 66 kWh battery for the EREV version.

Market and Production:

  • Launch and Availability: The Mengshi 917 has started production in China and has been launched in both the Chinese and Swiss markets. The prices in China range from approximately $83,112 to $102,100, depending on the version.
  • Certification: The vehicle has passed the EU ECE and Middle East GSO certifications, which paves the way for its entry into international markets.

Background:

  • Brand Lineage: The Mengshi series originates from Dongfeng’s military vehicle line. The 917 is a civilian adaptation, expanding the Mengshi lineup which also includes petrol-powered models like the Warrior M50.

The Mengshi 917 is set to compete in the high-end electric SUV market, with notable competitors like BYD’s YangWang U8 and the upcoming Mercedes-Benz EQG.
